Pros

  • 2-3 times a week I also use ZO Exfoliating polish to remove dead skin and help ingrown hairs, if I plan to shave I was my face with water based cleanser and then exfoliate.
  • Also really love Zo Exfoliating Polish which I wouldn’t mind adding if you see fit.

Cons

  • For years, I have used their exfoliating face wash, exfoliating polish, and oil control pads. Someone recently suggested this, plus my oral and topical acne meds and tretinoin might actually be causing my face to be oilier, instead of he...

For years, I have used their exfoliating face wash, exfoliating polish, and oil control pads. Someone recently suggested this, plus my oral and topical acne meds and tretinoin might actually be causing my face to be oilier, instead of helping with oil production. I’ve since switched to La Roche Posay Hydrating Gentle Cleanser and stopped using the oil control pads. I am still using the exfoliating polish.

Yeah you're definitely overdoing it on the exfoliation front. Chemical peels twice a week plus a physical exfoliating polish on your off nights is a LOT, especially for skin you're describing as slightly sensitive. Your barrier is probably getting wrecked and then your skin overcompensates with more oil and breakouts, which makes you want to exfoliate more... a not very fun cycle.

This does sound like a lot of exfoliation for slightly sensitive skin. The main thing I’d cut first is the ZO Exfoliating Polish on your non-peel nights, because combining a strong peel twice a week with a physical scrub is where a lot of people end up red, tight, and suddenly “reactive.”

yeah i do think you’re probably overdoing it a bit, mostly because the peel pads plus the exfoliating polish can be a lot for skin that already says it’s slightly sensitive. if it were me i’d cut the polish first and keep the routine way more boring for a couple weeks so you can see what your skin actually does when it’s not getting pushed all the time.
