AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Yunnan Sourcing is a prominent vendor of Chinese teas and teaware, widely regarded as a go-to for beginners due to its massive selection and competitive pricing. While it maintains a strong reputation for reliable packaging and customer service, recent community sentiment is polarized by price increases and inconsistent quality in certain categories like Puerh.
Pros
- Massive selection of Chinese teas and teaware
- US-based warehouse offers faster shipping for domestic customers
- Generally competitive pricing compared to other specialty vendors
- High-quality packaging and reliable customer service
- Good variety of 'daily drinker' teas and fragrance-focused oolongs
Cons
- Recent price hikes have led to accusations of greed and poor communication regarding tariffs
- Quality can be inconsistent, with some users reporting 'hit or miss' experiences, particularly with Puerh
- The vast catalog can be overwhelming and difficult for beginners to navigate
- Occasional reports of budget teas being of very low quality
Caveats
- Users advise against relying solely on on-site 5-star reviews; independent research is recommended before large purchases
- Recent global price increases may affect the value proposition depending on your region
- Ordering from the China-based site may involve complex tariff or import fee considerations
Best for
- Beginners looking to sample a wide variety of Chinese tea styles
- Tea drinkers who value a US-based shipping option for Chinese imports
- Sourcing affordable teaware like gaiwans and pitchers
Avoid if
- You are sensitive to recent price fluctuations in the tea market
- You prefer a curated, smaller selection over a massive, unvetted catalog
- You are looking for high-consistency Puerh without doing extensive external research

If they don’t care enough to pay an artist and are willing to cut corners there, where else did they cut corners and go with the cheaper, worse options?
Parent context: i’ve almost ordered from yunnan like 10 times but never pulled the trigger. any particular favorites of yours? Reply: I love their high mountain red, that's my daily drinker. also love love love the Saturn peach fragrance Dan cong oolong! all the fragrance Dan congs are wonderful.
Yunnan sourcing is not known for their greens. generally, i would recommend western brewing instead of gong-fu when it comes to greens.
Be careful with Yunnan Sourcing, start out slow. It's easy to read the 5 star reviews and think to yourself, "that sounds great!".
Yunnan Sourcing has a US warehouse and the range is broader, but focuses mostly on Chinese teas.
Yunnan Sourcing is fine for trying a number of types.
I recommend White2tea and Yunnan Sourcing. Buy their popular samplers to see if it's for you or not.
Yunnan Sourcing sells Chinese style tea samplers. If you've got the time, gongfu style brewing might be a good choice
I've spent more money on Yunan trying to find a tea I like than I have just ordering a solid tea from him. Don't get me wrong I love YS and discovering new teas but I equate Jessie's higher prices as a gamble-free tax I pay to know im getting a solid product that I'll like.
I recommend them all the time to beginners. They are really good for exploring your preferences. You get a pretty good deal on tea (and free shipping) chosen by someone with a deeper understanding of tea.
