Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

Zojirushi is widely regarded as a gold standard for rice cookers and thermal containers, frequently cited in "Buy It For Life" discussions for its extreme durability and performance. Users consistently report that the brand's rice cookers provide superior, even results compared to budget models, while their thermoses are noted for extreme heat retention that lasts for several hours. Although the high price point is a common barrier to entry, many owners consider the brand a essential investment that they would replace immediately if their current unit ever failed.

Pros

  • Exceptional heat retention in thermoses, keeping drinks hot for 5-7+ hours
  • Consistent, even rice cooking that prevents bottom-scorching
  • Extreme longevity, with multiple reports of units lasting 15 to 20 years
  • Versatile performance for other foods like steel-cut oatmeal
  • High-quality non-stick coatings that can remain scratch-free for over a decade

Cons

  • High initial cost compared to basic kitchen appliances
  • Spare parts can be difficult to source depending on geographic location
  • Standard inner pots are non-stick, which may not appeal to all users

Caveats

  • Some users find the manual's specific water measurement instructions confusing
  • A small minority of users feel the brand carries a price premium for the name/logo

Best for

  • Frequent rice eaters who value consistency
  • Long-term investors looking for durable kitchen hardware
  • Commuters who need beverages to stay hot for an entire workday

Avoid if

  • You strictly avoid non-stick cooking surfaces
  • You are on a tight budget and only cook rice occasionally
  • You live in a region where international replacement parts are inaccessible

You definitely won’t be disappointed, I’ve had 2 so far, a micom and currently an IH and both make perfect rice. I rehomed the micom and am told after over 12 years of use, it still gets used daily. My IH model makes perfect rice and porridge ever. Single. Time.

Zoji makes rice perfectly every dang time. IMO rice is not the same in the IP, might be ok in a Zoji, but not necessary at all.

Even in my Zoji, every so often, randomely, oatmeal will spill out during cooking. It sucks, but it's not the machine's fault, it's just how oats-do.

I’ve got a Fuji, Sakura and a Tsuki at home. Had Zojirushis in Japan. Find your sweet spot in terms of water would be my advice

a quality cooker like zojirushi (doesn't have to be a fancy one, just neuro fuzzy level) should eliminate this problem, too

Any hot drink I put into my Tatonka or Zojirushi will still burn your mouth to hell after 5-7 hours

I have [this one](https://www.zojirushi.com/app/product/smvs) and it keeps the coffee hot for hours, but there’s lots of options out there.

Zojirushi may be worth it for you based on what you said, it’s way more expensive and here in Spain I think they dont sell it.
