Yamaha CK88

Pros

• Something like Yamaha ck61 or Yamaha ck88, 61 version has semi-weighted keys and 88 has weighted keys.
• A Yamaha CK88 would last your kid a long time. It has lots of good quality sounds and the ability to layer 3 of them. Very fun and I believe in-tune with what it sounds like they want.
• I have the Yamaha CK88, which is great. ... The Yamaha has the edge with a really intuitive user interface and better effects and layering implementation (IMO). Also it has the organ drawbars, if that's something you want.
• A Yamaha CK88 would be a good candidate. It’s keybed feels good (enough), the piano and electric piano sounds are good, ands there’s other stuff like organs and synths to fill in some gaps.
• Also look for the Yamaha CK88 and Kawai MP7SE for more performance based instruments, more akin to the RD-700SX, but the price will be higher.

Cons

• It is the same weight as the new CK88, which I also have and want to get rid of.
• The only thing the CK88 has going for it is the light weight. It sounds (just) OK, but the volume controls are extremely tempermental. Slight adjustments can make huge changes in volume.
• Yamaha CK88 13.1 Kg. Excellent set of sounds but keyboard quality and action not Yamaha's best.
• While it is true that the build quality of the CK88 is not on par with the CP and YC counterparts, I will also say that the plastic shaves of a healthy amount of weight from the keyboard.
