Yamaha CK61

You might like a Nord Electro or Yamaha CK61 - something that has Rhodes, Wurli, B3 and whatnot.

I'm quite intrigued by the Yamaha CK61, which is readily available in budget, but I wasn't sure how the pianos would be compared to other options.

Something like Yamaha ck61 or Yamaha ck88, 61 version has semi-weighted keys and 88 has weighted keys.

But the CK's FX are WAY better.

I'd consider a Yamaha CK61. The organ section is based on the Reface YC which is well regarded. It's far more flexible than the organ modules.

I think he’s actually settled on trying out the Yamaha CK61 because being able to take it with him and play with others is a big part of getting a 2nd keyboard

If you still want good sounding pianos, organs and EPs with your synth sounds, you should look at the Yamaha CK61. Still has in built speakers, but is more focused on stage performance. You can easily split and layer, alter cutoff and resonance, attack and decay, has organ sliders, easily accessible effects like drives, and you can save your custom patches easily.

Seconding this. This is the route I went, got a used one for $700. Pair it with an iPad and you immediately have an incredibly portable and powerful workstation replacement.
