I've not had any issues with overheating.
My XPS 15 has been solid for three years but the battery life dropped faster than I liked after the first year. The screen is still one of the best I have used for creative work.
Upgrading from an XPS 15 that I bought I think in 2017 that has done me well other than a degraded battery. Given its longevity I am partial to another XPS
My XPS 13 and XPS 15 of the same generation/era suffer from the same inability to dissipate heat fast enough.
FWIW I have a much older XPS 15 with less flexible BIOS charge parameters. Mine is either normal change to 100% or "used at a desk" mode where it'll charge to 80%. The trick though is that if at any point you unplug the power adapter it will charge to 100% when plugged back in.
Grab a XPS 15 there are some for nice prices online I actually bought one off a guy near me on FB marketplace for $450 as a second one.
