XGIMI Horizon 20 Pro
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The XGIMI Horizon 20 Pro is generally well-regarded for its impressive 4K image quality and flexible installation options, particularly its optical lens shift and zoom. While users praise its brightness and suitability for large screens (120"+), the projector receives mixed feedback regarding visual artifacts like the rainbow effect (RBE) and laser speckle, which can be dealbreakers for sensitive viewers.
Pros
- Optical lens shift and zoom allow for flexible placement without sacrificing image quality
- Quiet operation with minimal humming or buzzing
- Supports VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) for gaming
- High brightness and sharpness, performing well even on large screens or colored walls
- Superior 'Red Ring' optics compared to the base model
Cons
- Noticeable rainbow effect (RBE) that can cause headaches or eye strain for sensitive users
- Significant laser speckle issues, especially when paired with certain ALR screens
- Software bugs reported, including stuttering during Dolby Vision playback on Disney+
- High price premium over the base model for what some describe as marginal gains in brightness and contrast
Caveats
- Image quality and laser speckle are highly dependent on the type of screen used
- Early firmware was noted as buggy, though some issues are allegedly being addressed via updates
- Out-of-the-box color accuracy and white balance may actually be better on the non-Pro base model
Best for
- Large screen setups (120 inches and larger)
- Users who need to place the projector off-center or on the side of a room
- Gaming enthusiasts requiring VRR support
- Bright environments where extra lumen output is necessary
Avoid if
- You are sensitive to the Rainbow Effect (RBE) or prone to projector-induced headaches
- You use a screen prone to highlighting laser speckle (like certain high-gain ALR screens)
- The price difference between the Pro and the base model exceeds your budget for minor performance gains
This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median source age of approximately 293 days, which may not reflect the most recent firmware improvements for this hardware.

Cant comment on the Horizon. I've heard good things though. The last I read were when it was newer, and some kinks were still being worked out.
Horizon 20 has issue like rbe(there's anti rbe feature though) and laser speckle. Horizon ultra doesn't have those issue but lacks contrast and color.
Imo get 3 as it's the brightness option, projector gets dimmer over time so best to have some head room.
Xgimi has vertical and horizontal shift and vrr for gaming.
For newbies, best to avoid tri laser like horizon 20 due to rbe and speckle issues.
EItherway i'm happy with my 2000€ "XGIMI horizon 20 pro" projector.
if u actually intend to do gaming on it tho, i would heavily lean more towards the Max version or maybe the new Titan noir version, because the 20 pro is kinda meh for gaming. It works but yeah...
it gets too bright, rofl. REALLY need to make sure that your walls/ceiling are not a bright colour....that is more of an issue than light coming in from windows. I don't really have an OLED to do a side by side contrast/black level comparison, but compared to my PC IPS monitors it looks better on the projector.
i am absolutely blown away of the image quality i get from this compared to a tv of the same price, It is miles better. Not sure if its the best projector in its price range, but i would be surprised if any could beat it at that price...
i bought the "Xgimi horizon 20 pro" for 2000€ and i absolutely love it.
