Xgimi Horizon 20 Max
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The Xgimi Horizon 20 Max is highly regarded for its sharp 4K image, vibrant color reproduction, and exceptional ease of setup. Users frequently praise its snappy operating system and the inclusion of horizontal and vertical lens shift, which simplifies placement without relying on digital keystone. While it is noted for being bright enough for some ambient light or outdoor use, it faces consistent criticism regarding its black levels, which some describe as dark grey, and the presence of the rainbow effect (RBE) for sensitive viewers.
Pros
- Excellent lens shift (horizontal and vertical) allows for flexible placement without image degradation.
- Sharp image clarity with reliable autofocus that maintains focus across the entire screen.
- Snappy and responsive operating system provides a premium user experience.
- Low input lag makes it a viable option for online gaming.
- Vibrant color depth and gradients that provide a cinema-like feel.
Cons
- Black levels are often described as dark grey rather than deep black, particularly due to the lack of a physical iris.
- Susceptible to the rainbow effect (RBE), which may be distracting for sensitive users.
- Weak built-in speakers with very little low-end bass reproduction.
- Reported firmware issues with Dolby Vision settings failing to stay enabled.
Caveats
- Requires specific ceiling heights for mounting to avoid the unit hanging too low in the room.
- While bright, some users felt the actual brightness did not fully meet their high expectations for the price point.
- The 'Enhanced Black Level' (EBL) software feature has received negative feedback for its performance.
Best for
- Users who need flexible installation options thanks to physical lens shift.
- Gamers looking for a large-format display with low latency.
- Viewers who prioritize a sharp, colorful image and a fast smart TV interface.
Avoid if
- You are sensitive to the rainbow effect (RBE) common in DLP projectors.
- You are a home theater purist who demands deep, ink-black levels for dark-room viewing.
- You intend to rely solely on the projector's internal speakers for audio.

Horizon 20 pro and max are even brighter than valerion max and pro2. ... Horizon 20 pro and max will be significantly brighter than valerion pro2 too.
Xgimi is a lot brighter, cheaper and has more features but the contrast not as good due to lack of iris.
If you're not sensitive to rbe and use subtitles, then xgimi horizon 20 max is the better option. Significantly brighter, has horizontal and vertical shift.
Models that clearly outperform it, such as the XGIMI Horizon 20 Max, cost about $1,000 more.
Xgimi horizon 20 max or jmgo n3 ultimate. Both are REALLY Good.
Then the below projector is highly recommended around your price range. ... Xgimi Horizon 20 Max 5700-Lumen UHD 4K Laser DLP Smart Home projector
While I do see a lot of good reviews regarding the XGimi Horizon 20 Max, I’m a bit concerned because I am seeing repeated reports of the system bricking following firmware updates.
The XGimi Horizon 20 Max and the JMGO N3 Ultimate are better choices than the X1 IMO. The lack of lens shift on the X1 is a big hit against it when you talk about flexible placement and your need to move it around, getting a projector with more placement flexibility is an absolute win for you and is available in these two models. The XGimi has a better overall image, and similar brightness, but not as much zoom or lens shift.
The XGIMI HORIZON 20 Max is the top performer. Its 5,700 ISO lumens easily cut through bright room conditions, and its built-in optical lens shift simplifies ceiling/shelf alignment without loss of resolution.
I have a xgimi horizon 20 max, and a Hella cheap projector screen, and I'm ecstatic about it!! Looks totally incredible. I use it for PS5, PC and movies
