AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The XGIMI Horizon is a polarising projector that earns high marks for its brightness and integrated Harman Kardon sound system, but faces sharp criticism for its poor contrast. While casual users appreciate its ease of use and performance on painted walls, home theater enthusiasts frequently complain about 'horrific' black levels that can make dark scenes difficult to watch. It is generally viewed as a solid all-in-one unit for general media consumption, though its HDR performance and input latency are noted as weak points.

Pros

  • High brightness (1500 lumens) suitable for various lighting conditions
  • Excellent built-in Harman Kardon sound system
  • Performs well even when projecting onto a painted wall
  • User-friendly features including digital keystone and Dolby Vision support

Cons

  • Poor black levels that can make dark films unwatchable for some
  • Low contrast ratio compared to dedicated home theater competitors
  • Noticeable input latency, making it less ideal for precise gaming
  • Weak HDR performance with little perceived difference from SDR
  • Potential white balance issues where whites can appear blue-tinted

Caveats

  • There is a significant divide between casual users and enthusiasts regarding image depth and contrast
  • Users often confuse the base Horizon with the more expensive 4K 'Pro' version
  • Digital keystone correction is functional but may impact overall image quality

Best for

  • General movie and TV show watching in multi-purpose rooms
  • Users seeking a high-quality all-in-one setup without external speakers
  • Projecting onto non-traditional surfaces like walls

Avoid if

  • You are a 'black level purist' who watches many dark or moody films
  • You require low latency for competitive gaming
  • You are specifically looking for a high-end HDR experience

Xgimi Horizon, just bought, really really good on painted wall as well. Sound is really good as well. Cons: digital keystone isn’t ideal but honestly it’s still great.

One option could be xgimi horizon? Has good specs and solid brightness (1500 lumens). For black Friday is 550.

Parent context: Yeah it's those black levels I'm most concerned about. There's too much hype etc around all these projectors. Hard to know the truth. I had the xgimi horizon back in the day and those black levels are truly horrific. Makes some dark films unwatchable.... Reply: Especially in HDR. I have the 4k pro and it‘s fine as long everything is super dark but I‘d still wish for some more contrast tho. Brightness is ok ish
