XGIMI

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
XGIMI is frequently recommended as a high-value "lifestyle" projector brand that competes well with traditional manufacturers by offering sharp image quality, modern laser technology, and user-friendly features like lens shift. While praised for its color accuracy and low input lag, the brand faces significant criticism regarding its long-term reliability and the difficulty of obtaining repairs or customer support outside of China.
Pros
- Excellent out-of-the-box color accuracy, particularly in D65 mode
- Lens shift functionality makes setup and positioning significantly easier than many competitors
- Low input lag makes it a strong choice for gaming compared to some traditional brands
- High value for money, especially when purchasing refurbished units
- Sharp picture quality with effective upscaling algorithms
Cons
- Customer service and repair processes are often described as poor, sometimes requiring international shipping
- Triple laser models can suffer from noticeable laser speckle and Rainbow Effect (RBE)
- Black levels are reported to be weaker than some competing brands
- Potential technical glitches, such as a pink hue when certain image settings are activated
- Reported issues with Dolby Vision performance
Caveats
- Repair parts are difficult to find, making the units hard to service once out of warranty
- Some users suggest that online reviews may be overly positive and fail to mention technical trade-offs
- Mounting can be problematic in rooms with low ceilings
Best for
- Users looking for a feature-rich lifestyle projector that is easy to set up
- Gamers who need low latency in a projector format
- Budget-conscious buyers willing to consider refurbished units for better specs
Avoid if
- You are highly sensitive to the Rainbow Effect (RBE) or laser speckle
- You prioritize having local, responsive warranty and repair support
- You require deep black levels for a dedicated dark-room home theater

Parent context: Yeh, that's what I am afraid of really. Since I am going with an acoustically transparent screen, I'll not be able to get something high gain. ... That leaves the problems of colour banding, dithering (which seems to be the biggest problem with the XGIMI), rbe … Reply: Rbe is a personal thing and on technical level their rbe reduction is not as good as valerion so you may still see it.
So if you really care about hdr then get xgimi - though it has it's own set of issue like color banding, dithering, laser speckle, rbe, metamerism etc
If you're not sensitive to rbe & speckle then get xgimi, if not then settle for the benq.
Imo get the tk705i if you're a new user as xgimi is technically better but due to tri laser it has issue like rbe and speckle.
I see brands like Xgimi get a lot of recommendations here, but I'm always a bit wary of these Chinese brands because it's such a long way to send something for repair and repair pieces are hard to come by.
the room was hot, the video was grainy and they were using some bootleg video clips they grabbed off of who knows where. It was pretty embarrassing. So many of the reviews are glowing about their products but their demo was just sad.
XGIMI or similar smart portable/lifestyle projectors use small DLP chips. While convenient, they have low native contrast. In a dark room, blacks will look gray, and dark scenes will lose detail.
i personally just dont feel like they are as trustworthy as the bigger known brands if something were to happen with the projector as they are based in china..
Valerion and XGIMI are substantially nicer projectors than the ones you lited in my opinion.
I also hope the (deserved) hype for XGIMi projectors is followed by long term reliability in use - we will see!
