Pros

• I’m trying water lettuce now, same thing, starting with three pieces, and keeping them in floating rings to help them grow.
• Fast growing plants that pull from the water column will keep your tank in check. Frogbit or water lettuce, coupled with a larger pothos out if the back should do the job.
• Floaters like frogbit and water lettuce are fun too.
• I prefer water lettuce and frogbit.
• OP, there are many great starter plants out there for you to try (Java fern, Java moss, anubias, water lettuce, various floaters, duckweed - but be aware this one can either be a blessing or a curse depending on your point of view).

Cons

• For example, water lettuce is known as what is called a "hyperaccumulator". This is a term coined to describe plants which can rapidly absorb toxins and heavy metals in the water.
• Water lettuce is so prolific it’s considered invasive in many places
• I just bought water lettuce off buce plant and it died almost immediately. I bought two, but they only sent one.
• If I could I’d exchange my water lettuce for frog bit. They’re pretty but they’re also kind of big and awkward.
• DONT EVEN TALK TO ME ABOUT WATER LETTUCE. They keep turning yellow and now have seemingly all lost the roots, pray the babies make it??
