I've just used fluval stratum with a bit of nutribase under.
It’s Fluval Stratum, except for the sand obviously lol, that’s just play sand. I glued the rocks together with filter floss in between them to create a sort of “sand river” effect and to keep the substrates seperate, it has mostly worked. And because stratum has iron in it you can use a long magnet to pick up any pieces that make their way onto the sand!
