Pros
- It’s sprawling medium heavy Euro with an interesting theme and great production. ... When I first played this early in the year I absolutely loved it
- Beyond the artwork, which is stunning, the design choices throughout just really work for me (other than maybe the tokens on the Vienna board, did they really need to be that small?). I went nearly all-in on the kickstarter for this one,...
- For me its one of the better euros of the last few years. Its a good game with a well integrated theme (for a euro) with a great table presence. In a first game the terminology and action selection can be a bit confusing, but I like the...
- What a gorgeous looking game
Cons
- I feel this way about unconscious mind, hegemony, and feast for Odin. I played them once, they were not fulfilling enough to justify their runtime, and I probably won't play them again.
- Parent context: Excellent list! Totally agree on Unconscious mind, u shoulda play more, such an underrated game, I love it. Gotta try seti! Reply: Interesting! I feel like unconscious mind is actually way overrated. The average rating is...
- Man, I have this thing I say when a game like this just scares me off. I say, "No thanks. Too many bits." This is the poster child for that. Wow. I love the sound of it, but "daunting" doesn't even begin to describe it, or the tension it...

Parent context: Excellent list! Totally agree on Unconscious mind, u shoulda play more, such an underrated game, I love it. Gotta try seti! Reply: Interesting! I feel like unconscious mind is actually way overrated. The average rating is 7.9 :O I don't hate it but I'm literally planning to start house ruling the entire city board out of the game, lol. Really really wish it'd been developed a bit more before relase because I wanted to like it so much more.

Man, I have this thing I say when a game like this just scares me off. I say, "No thanks. Too many bits." This is the poster child for that. Wow. I love the sound of it, but "daunting" doesn't even begin to describe it, or the tension it immediately triggers.
I suppose it is in that it's pretty good but it's just not as good as many others because it neeeeds development to be a truly great game. There's a whole extra board with lots of moving parts that I and others I've seen independently think could have been completely removed and the game would have been the better for it. It's not a bad game at all, but I'm highly considering house ruling stuff to enjoy it better which isn't a good sign for a euro.
Beyond the artwork, which is stunning, the design choices throughout just really work for me (other than maybe the tokens on the Vienna board, did they really need to be that small?). I went nearly all-in on the kickstarter for this one, so I got the holo style dream cards and they are almost distractingly gorgeous.
For me its one of the better euros of the last few years. Its a good game with a well integrated theme (for a euro) with a great table presence. In a first game the terminology and action selection can be a bit confusing, but I like the flow of the game and the combos you can make when you combine the right triggers
What a gorgeous looking game
I don't understand the praise for Unconscious Mind. It's a bloated mess that delivers nothing engaging that necessitates its scope. If you strip away all the parts that don't add anything significant to earn their presence, it's Splendor with extra steps.
P.S.: Unconscious Mind was pre-ordered in December 2024 so it doesn't count!
