AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The Tsubaki Hair Mask is widely regarded as a top-tier treatment for low porosity hair, frequently praised for making hair soft, manageable, and voluminous without the heavy silicone feel of competitors like Fino. While many users report 'heavenly' scents and improved texture, opinions are mixed regarding its ability to deliver a high-gloss 'glass hair' finish, and some find its formula too thin or drying due to the presence of surfactants.

Pros

  • Highly effective for low porosity hair types
  • Makes hair significantly softer and more manageable
  • Lightweight formula that provides volume without weighing down fine or straight hair
  • Pleasant floral/muscat scent

Cons

  • Contains sulfates and surfactants that can be drying or stripping for some users
  • Thin consistency may not adhere well to all hair types
  • Can leave a greasy residue if not suited to the user's specific hair porosity

Caveats

  • Frequently sold and shipped without a safety seal, which has led to reports of leaking during transit
  • Viral 'glass hair' results are not universal; some users only experience softness rather than extreme shine
  • The scent is polarizing for those sensitive to fragrance

Best for

  • Low porosity hair
  • Fine or straight hair
  • Users who find the Fino hair mask too heavy or greasy

Avoid if

  • You have high porosity hair
  • You are sensitive to sulfates or strong surfactants
  • You prefer a very thick, heavy mask for intense damage repair

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median source age of approximately 580 days; confidence is medium as the product formula or market alternatives may have shifted since the bulk of these mentions.

thanks to it I’ve started using the Tsubaki hair mask (together with taking hair care more seriously) and my hair is loving it too!!

I got mine from Yesstyle and it was also unsealed (it actually leaked in transit too).

in general i heard tsubaki is more suited for low porosity hair than fino. which in my experience (i have low porosity hair) is true because my hair feels more moisturized and shiny with tsubaki than fino.

Parent context: How are you using the hair mask? I also feel like I'm doing something wrong. Either that or it's just not for me. It hasn't really made my hair look nicer, but it makes it feel softer that's for sure. Reply: I have really frizzy hair, I use the mask and the Fino hair oil. My hair is usually not a fan of oils and tends to make my hair look super oily but I put the Fino hair oil while my hair is still wet. Once it dries it looks great!

I wanted to love the Tsubaki and Fino but I tried both masks and the product doesn't hold on to my hair, it feels too thin.

Obviously, buying the fino or the tsubaki hair mask was easy; they’re all popular and have actual reviews.
