Tikal is a Mayan city par excellence - it was one of the largest cities in the region, and it definitely shows in the architecture of the site. Personally, I think it's well worth the trip
Guatemala - Tikal one of my favourites!
Tikal is really special, even compared to other Mayan ruins, and I'd recommend spending the night before inside the park... Plus it's necessary if you're doing sunrise entry, which I thought was totally worth it.
If your brother goes along consider Tikal for the pyramids, you can stay in the jungle and do an early morning guided hike which is incredible.
Consider a visit to Tikal if you can fit it in. It was definitely a highlight for us.

Sunrise Tour of Tikal is a must do. Get a private guide. Lots of wildlife to be seen there with a good guide.
Tikal is amazing and you should go out of your way to see as much as you can.
Flores and Tikal are really fantastic spots. Six days may be a little long but chill and enjoy.
Day 2 I did the morning (not sunrise) tour to Tikal that left at 6 and returned around 2:30.
