AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 is a popular, budget-friendly hydration serum frequently cited for its ability to provide a 'glass-skin' glow. While many users find it comparable to high-end luxury products, it is a polarizing formula that some report causes deep breakouts or congestion.

Pros

  • Highly affordable price point (approximately $7)
  • Provides a noticeable plumping effect and 'glass-skin' glow
  • Effective as a layering step under occlusives like Vaseline
  • Can deliver results comparable to much more expensive luxury brands

Cons

  • May cause 'blind pimples' or deep cystic acne for certain users
  • Potential to cause closed comedones (CCs)
  • Formula contains algae extract (Ahnfeltiopsis Concinna), which some identify as a comedogenic trigger

Caveats

  • Must be applied to damp skin to be effective and avoid drying out the skin
  • Mixed results regarding acne: some users see improvement in whiteheads but an increase in deeper spots
  • The texture and ingredient profile may not be suitable for those sensitive to algae-derived extracts

Best for

  • Budget-conscious consumers looking for basic hydration
  • Users seeking a dewy or 'glowy' skin finish
  • Dry skin types that use a multi-step layering routine

Avoid if

  • You are prone to cystic acne or blind pimples
  • You have a known sensitivity to algae extracts
  • You prefer a simple, one-step moisturizing routine

Recently switched from Neutrogena hyaluronic acid serum (which i never had a problem with) to The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5. My skin seems to be handling it well and my acne has been a lot better in terms of white heads, but i’m suddenly getting huge blind pimples.

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 (~$7) gives that exact plumping, glass-skin glow. Layer it while your face is still damp after cleansing - that's the secret. I actually switched from SK-II ($185) to The Ordinary and my skin looks just as glowy.

I’m currently using pretty standard products from Brand Ordinary, Retinol 1% in Squalane, Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, Salicylic Acid 2% (occasionally), and a Vitamin C serum from Florence I found on Amazon.

Hey! I introduced TO HA 2% + B5 with ceramides to my routine a few days ago. I started getting more CCs. Turns out it has *Ahnfeltiopsis Concinna Extract (algae extract)* in it, which is comedogenic.
