What I have found is the test strips are more likely to have “dud” strips, and don’t do as well at reading “low” levels. I can’t tell you which brands are which, but one of my test strips won’t read nitrates if they are below 40ppm, where another brand will give me 20ppm readings (when the first brand shows no color).

Test strips suck. You might as well guess.
To test your water levels, you want to buy the API freshwater master kit. It can be pricey, but you do not want to use test strips.
Also, liquid test kits are more accurate, test strips are okay for daily quick checks, but they’re not very reliable when you need to know exactly what’s going on.
i’d recommend switching to API Freshwater Master Test Kit. As test strips are not very accurate sometimes
