AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The SVS PB-2000 is a well-regarded ported subwoofer frequently recommended for home theater enthusiasts seeking deep, impactful bass. It is widely considered a significant performance step up from the PB-1000, particularly in its ability to maintain linear pressure below 20Hz and provide higher output at low frequencies. While it is a favorite for movie playback, some users find its performance for music to be slightly boomy and less detailed than sealed alternatives.

Pros

  • Significant output increase (approx. 10dB) below 30Hz compared to the PB-1000
  • Excellent for movie playback, providing deep bass that 'hits hard'
  • Maintains linear pressure down to below 20Hz
  • Strong manufacturer support, including helpful out-of-warranty repair options
  • High value on the used market, especially if the warranty is still active

Cons

  • Can sound boomy and lack fine detail during music playback
  • Large physical footprint compared to sealed 'SB' models

Caveats

  • The PB-2000 is often compared to the newer PB-2000 Pro or the RSL Speedwoofer 12S as potential upgrades
  • Ported design may be less ideal for users with very small rooms or a primary focus on music

Best for

  • Dedicated home theater setups
  • Users upgrading from entry-level subwoofers like the PB-1000
  • Medium-sized rooms (e.g., 12x15x8) where sealed subs might struggle

Avoid if

  • You prioritize tight, musical bass over raw movie-watching impact
  • You have limited floor space for a large ported enclosure

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older (median age ~395 days) and comes from a single enthusiast community, which is relevant as this model has been largely superseded by the 'Pro' variant in retail channels.

I had both the SB-2000 and the PB-2000. I liked the SB and it had a great tone for music but ultimately couldn't hack it in my 12x15x8 room for movie playback. The PB is more than adequate.

I have an SVS PB-2000 subwoofer in the left corner, which produces decent bass.

My SVS PB-2000 that I bought with physical damage to the driver (!!!), they offered to sell me a new driver and cover shipping both ways if I send in the old one as a "core".

Expect the ported PB-2000 to play about 10 dB louder below 30Hz.

The PB2000s hit hard and sound great in movies but music is more booming and not as detailed as I like.

I had the 1000, ended up upgrading to the 2000. It is a noticeable jump in bass production. I would wholeheartedly spend an extra hundred for the 2000.

Definitely get the PB-2000 for only $100 more. It's a lot more sub than the PB-1000.

PB-2000 is the better value, assuming no issues

Otherwise check marketplace for an SVS sub that still has warranty and has been well taken care of. Think PB-1000 pro, PB-2000, PB-2000 Pro.
