Pros

  • The ZV-E1 is also another good option. Same full frame sensor and processor as the FX3 / A7SIII, in a much smaller and way cheaper package, and it even has better autofocus capabilities than either of those cameras. You can get a used ZV...
  • Personally I think the ZV-E1 is wildly underrated and a genuine future classic, and I couldn't be happier with mine. It's only real weakness is the lack of an EVF and mechanical shutter, but I also have at A7R2 I use for photos and as a...
  • A bit over budget, but I’m loving my ZV-E1 even if it’s just 12mp for photos. The video side of it it is super capable even in low light, the active dynamic stabilisation is amazing and switching from video to photos in a hybrid shooting...
  • You could get away with the ZV-E1 though. Same sensor as the other two.
  • Parent context: zeiss 55mm is always the lens I grab when I'm only taking one. Reply: It’s also my favourite lens. It works great with the ZV-E1.

Cons

  • But the ZV-E1 is my upper limit.
  • the ZV-E1 for 4k 120 run time would overheat rather quickly unless you plan on getting a fan for the back of it.
  • Missed full frame so got a ZV-e1 which I am now regretting.
  • OH if you already have an A7s3, there's no reason to get the ZV-E1, totally redundant.
  • The huge negative for the ZV-E1 for me is the overheating issue, is it really as bad as they say?

The ZV-E1 is also another good option. Same full frame sensor and processor as the FX3 / A7SIII, in a much smaller and way cheaper package, and it even has better autofocus capabilities than either of those cameras. You can get a used ZV-E1 for about $1500 USD these days, which is pretty much the best bargain in video these days far as I'm concerned.

Personally I think the ZV-E1 is wildly underrated and a genuine future classic, and I couldn't be happier with mine. It's only real weakness is the lack of an EVF and mechanical shutter, but I also have at A7R2 I use for photos and as a b-cam so neither of those omissions really bother me that much.

A bit over budget, but I’m loving my ZV-E1 even if it’s just 12mp for photos. The video side of it it is super capable even in low light, the active dynamic stabilisation is amazing and switching from video to photos in a hybrid shooting scenario is very easy with the “different settings in video and photo mode” option in the menus.

The only feature it's really missing is Sony's new AI autofocus that is on the A1 ii along with the ZV-E1

Never had a problem with overheating, and I've done lots with the zve1 while traveling. I wouldn't even consider overheating in your process.
