Sonoff
Reddit take
Not enough linked mention summaries yet; the source excerpts below are the evidence.
Pros
- IKEA&Sonoff(these are also very affordable!!) are also solid.
- Aqara and Sonoff are two brands I like for my sensors.
- I have a mixture of Ikea (bulbs and sensors), Philips Hue (lights), sonoff, Xiaomi and Aqara.
- Sonoff makes good ones
- I'm deep into the zigbee ecosystem - Sonoff, aqara, and third reality all do some great stuff.
Cons
- Can you look at smart buttons instead? One click for this, 2 for that? Can stick them on a wall. They’d be cheaper. Like Tradfi, Aqara, Flic, Sonoff?
- I did it a long time ago, monitoring temperature with the RPi which would then turn on and off space heaters over WiFi via a Sonoff spliced into the cord.
- Other option is puting relay of some sort like shelly or sonoff but not sure if it will fit.
- I can only find zigbee and wifi relay switches from sonoff.
- I believe Shelly and Sonoff both have offerings.

On the zigbee side, Third Reality and Sonoff have decent smart plugs for a reasonable price.
Another option is to install smart relays (Shelly, Sonoff, etc.) at the light fixture where you do have a neutral.
If so, Sonoff and IKEA both do smart plugs with power monitoring... I've got both and have had no problems so far, but I'm using Home Assistant.
And yeah I'd do the small Shelly's or sonoffs.
