It's noisier than some other PC fan purifiers I own, but I just keep it turned down, and even at half power it's both quieter and more powerful than e.g. my Levoit or Coway units. I have a couple of Levoit brand air purifiers, they have been great and I like the washable pre-filters (I have cats). One is about 2 years old now, liked it enough to buy a second larger unit a year later.
I have 2. They're fine, but not the greatest. The difference they make is relatively small. I'd pay more for something better.
Out of those two, definitely choose the Levoit.

I have looked at Coway and Levoit as well, but I have seen similar concerns about odors/off-gassing with some of their models.
