Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

Smart Launcher is widely regarded as a stable and powerful alternative to Nova Launcher, particularly for users seeking advanced gesture controls and automatic app organization. While it is praised for its modern aesthetic and features like stacked widgets, it faces criticism for its high lifetime license cost and occasional reliability issues with gesture registration.

Pros

  • Extensive gesture support including double-tap, two-finger swipes, and home button shortcuts
  • Automatic app drawer categorization and organization
  • Support for modern features like stacked widgets and a built-in newsreader
  • Strong integration with Icon Pack Studio for customization
  • Generally stable performance as a primary launcher replacement

Cons

  • High price for a lifetime license, cited by users as being around $27 to $30
  • Gestures can occasionally fail to register, specifically the swipe-down notification panel
  • Lack of a traditional dock layout is a dealbreaker for some long-time Nova users
  • Reports of data tracking within the app

Caveats

  • The method for managing drawer tabs and adding apps to them is described by some as clunky
  • Historically, the launcher was slow to add extra home pages, which may impact users used to multi-page setups
  • The evidence is older (median age ~410 days), which may not reflect the most recent software updates or pricing changes

Best for

  • Users looking for a stable alternative to Nova Launcher
  • People who prefer automatic app sorting over manual organization
  • Power users who rely heavily on custom gestures

Avoid if

  • You are looking for a low-cost or budget-friendly premium launcher
  • You require a traditional static dock for your workflow
  • You are sensitive to app tracking and data privacy

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median age of 410 days, meaning confidence is lower for this fast-changing app category.

You forgot the best feature, support for multiple screen configurations which makes it perfect for foldable phones. He is also working hard to add features for Nova Launcher refugees so they feel at home. And a cheap upgrade for the paid version but a very generous free version too.

I'm a big fan of Smart Launcher. I've been using it for maybe 15 years now, don't remember even when it came out. Super customizable.

The only launcher that comes slightly close is Smart Launcher. But for right now I keep coming back to Kvaesitso.

Parent context: try smart launcher Reply: 30 bucks for a lifetime license is a hefty price though... That's 1/10th of what my phone cost XD

Smart Launcher, expensive (or not if you get a regional price) but known as one of the best after the Nova's fall from grace.
