Pros
- It is not competitive, and it definitely can be played solo. I have done that. Although I would recommend that if you do solo campaign , you do it in a space, where you can leave the game between sessions a solo campaign takes around 10...
- This game was everything I wanted 7C to be. Sure, managing 9 characters could be a bit much from time to time, and the combat was sometimes a bit of a slog, but getting to explore wherever you wanted to, and having each campaign turn out...
- How about an Indiana Jones style adventure? Check out Sleeping Gods or Primeval Peril.
- If you want something with lots of little stories and a ton of exploration, sleeping gods or sleeping gods distant skies are worth a look. It’s really “side quests: the game”.
- Parent context: I've never played Sleeping Gods, and now I kind of don't even want to. Is that necessary? Reply: No lol. It’s extreme. It’s good to take some notes for the next game, but keywords is all I would recommend (and all the gam...
Cons
- It currently has Sleeping Gods set up in it and it fits everything very snug.
- Sleeping Gods was okay, but the hand management and combat puzzles were low points.
- EBR isn't grindy in the least, and is way better-written than sleeping gods, which I was very disappointed by.
- Earthborne rangers wants to tell you an emergent narrative through the cards while sleeping gods wants to tell you multiple small stories based on where you are. I'm in the middle of the campaign of both right now and earthborne rangers...
- We have Sleeping Gods, but I've never really clicked with it, and it mostly sits and collects dust on our shelf, especially because of how long it takes to play, and the lack of a clear obvious end of a session.

Earthborne rangers wants to tell you an emergent narrative through the cards while sleeping gods wants to tell you multiple small stories based on where you are. I'm in the middle of the campaign of both right now and earthborne rangers is filled with small moments but nothing amazing quite yet while sleeping gods has a good balance of small minor events and big events.
This game was everything I wanted 7C to be. Sure, managing 9 characters could be a bit much from time to time, and the combat was sometimes a bit of a slog, but getting to explore wherever you wanted to, and having each campaign turn out so differently, was a joy. Loved the storybook.

I'll tell you what took the wind out of my sails with this game (hah!), is that: 1. We completed the game once, and the reward we got for the totems unlocked was ... extremely underwhelming, and 2. We returned to an early part of the map on our second run, made slightly different choices, and found an entirely different totem than the first time through. When I realized that not only did we have to track where we got every totem, but that some places might have different totems depending on choices, it implied you had to not only go through each location but all the decision trees in each location -- some decisions being excluded per run depending on other choices -- it was just so disheartening and we've never gone back to it.
