I found Silman's Complete Endgame Course (book) to be invaluable in learning enough to go into almost any endgame with confidence. It's divided into sections by what's most important to know at each rating level, so you can progress along as you play and improve over time
The best way to start learning the endgame is via Silman's "Complete Endgame Course."
Read Silman's Complete Endgame Course up through the Class B section. If you break 1600 OTB, read up through the Class A section.
