Sennheiser HD 800S

Pros

• Sennheiser HD800S and many HiFiMan headphones are known for doing a large soundstage. They are bright in the treble, and recessed in the mids.
• Sure, we all know about the detail retrieval, soundstage and clarity the HD 800 and 800s are rightfully known and praised for
• Comfort is surely far superior on the HD 800s by a decent margin mostly due to the lack of clamping.
• There are a lot of options. You can go with the Meze 109 Pro, used HD800S, or the Hifiman Arya Stealth,
• From what I hear either the focal utopia or the hd 800s are the best in general depending on what you want, not sure though.

Cons

• For me, it becomes distant to the point of sounding narrow instead of wide or spacious, because the images are now consistently too small to sound realistic. I interpret them as taking up less space.
• The large soundstage of the HD800S is a lot of fun, but I suspect it won't be ideal for actual work. Unlike the 600 series, the clampforce is extremely low.
• Don't think I've ever seen them available from Sennheisers own support which becomes frustrating when you order a whole bunch of parts for HD800S, In-ears, etc.
• Actually, I don’t use my 800s much at all anymore, I should probably consider selling them one of these days.
• I have an Empyrean (planar), a HD650 (dynamic), and a HD800S (dynamic). I have no idea what "planar pluck" refers to...
