Pros

  • i only do crucial or wd/sandisk now, and saddened that crucial is exiting the consumer market.
  • The general rule of thumb is to go with a drive from a known brand (kingston, crucial, western digital, samsung, sandisk) and ideally look at reviews before hand.
  • if you are copying from Apple to SanDisk, you have to use the Apple SSD read speed (not the bus, there is plenty of bandwidth on the bus) and SanDisk write speed. the internal SSD is going to be fast at reading, so the bottleneck is goin...
  • I use Samsung pro plus but scandisk is good too.
  • No issues with Prograde or Sandisk

Cons

  • WD may be an option as they are phasing it all out because SanDisk is putting its own branding on the new drives now as WD dumped them.
  • I would never buy Lexar, just because I think they are the worst value of storage, same for SanDisk, because of price and supposed performance, but I value performance a little more than others.
  • Transcend is suspending shipments of solid-state drives – the manufacturer has not received NAND chips from Samsung and SanDisk since October because they have reoriented their capacities to serving AI.

if you are copying from Apple to SanDisk, you have to use the Apple SSD read speed (not the bus, there is plenty of bandwidth on the bus) and SanDisk write speed. the internal SSD is going to be fast at reading, so the bottleneck is going to be the write speed on the external disk.

Avoid SanDisk if you are ordering from Amazon. Theirs a high percentage of counterfeit cards on Amazon.
