Rosehip Oil
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Rosehip oil is widely praised as a versatile, non-comedogenic option for deep hydration and skin barrier repair. Users frequently recommend it for treating dry, peeling skin and fading acne scars, often mixing a few drops into standard moisturizers or layering it over aloe. While generally considered safe for acne-prone skin, some users report it can be too heavy for specific conditions like perioral dermatitis or may cause clogs for certain skin types.
Pros
- Provides deep hydration for dry, flaking, or peeling skin
- Helps fade acne scarring and improves skin tone/color
- Rich in fatty acids and vitamins without being inherently comedogenic for most
- Effective for skin barrier repair when layered with other moisturizers
Cons
- Can be too 'heavy' for some users, potentially trapping clogs around the jaw
- May interfere with sunscreen efficacy if applied in the morning
- Occasional reports of breakouts or irritation in sensitive individuals
Caveats
- Contrary to popular belief, the oil does not contain significant Vitamin C as it is water-soluble and lost during seed pressing
- May be unsuitable for those prone to perioral dermatitis
- Effectiveness can vary; some users found it helpful initially but stopped after noticing skin changes
Best for
- Nighttime skincare routines
- Dry or dehydrated skin types
- Fading post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (scarring)
- Mixing with heavy creams to boost moisture
Avoid if
- You have perioral dermatitis
- You need an oil specifically for morning use under sunscreen
- You are sensitive to heavier facial oils

As for moisturizer, I am not sure if this is a common advice. But I am using Eucerin Advanced Repair Cream, mixed with 3 drops of Rosehip Oil. The urea ingredient will deeply moisturize the skin and the rosehip oil is bringing back color to my skin.
I use rose hip oil and aloe to moisturize. My skin hates some kind of emulsifier that’s in absolute everything, so it kind of limits my options, but this works quite well and doesn’t break me out.
I have very easily triggered chronic acne, and the solution for my dehydration wound up being layering aloe on damp skin, then putting rose hip oil on top. I don’t break out from this.
I use rose hip oil twice a day, and gua sha every morning. Can’t explain it, but it works for me. 🤷♀️
I tested shea butter and rosehip oil on my skin individually for two weeks and didn’t break out, so I combined them to make a whipped shea butter and FINALLY something that works on my skin!
I use rosehip oil on my face at night, and vanicream during the day. The rosehip oil helps a ton. It’s rich in vitamins and fatty acids without causing acne. It’s been a game changer.
since you're prone to perioral dermatitis, the shea butter and rosehip oil might actually be too "heavy" and trapping those clogs around your jaw.
If you need an oil try a noncomedogenic oil like squalane, grapeseed, hempseed, jojoba, sunflower, rosehip, etc.
I used to use a mask (years ago) that had rose hip oil in it and I remember it healed a lot of my acne or made my scarring fade quicker.
pm: allafia face wash, sometimes rosehip oil if i'm right out of shower, prequel face wash; and if i have inflamed acne, then beef tallow.
