Reddit take

Pros

  • Terramaster just has a new os and is more open, as is Qnap.
  • Yeah. 8 bay qnap full of shucked easystores... five years and all going strong.
  • I’ve loved my QNAP for the past 8 years so tempted to just bite the bullet and buy the 464.
  • Synology, QNAP, TrueNAS, all will do.
  • Synology, QNaP or Ugreen would be my recommdnations.

Cons

  • I have a mac mini + DAS setup, and honestly I like it much better than the QNAP I had before.
  • 1. buy a NAS (QNAP, Synology,...)
  • I really don't want to power up huge blade servers (fx2 and qnap)
  • The other issue I have with qnap is container support sucks on QTS, but I cannot speak on QUTS. I cannot run any containers on my qnap nas, and their software suite sucks compared to others.
  • I'd prefer to invest in base h/w and use my time vs use Synology/QNAP.

I did this for years using two QNAPs. My ROI was ~14 months with slightly lower storage requirements.

I’ve heard good things about Ugreen and QNAP too.
