Most books that are public domain can be found on legit websites like Project Gutenberg. There are soooo many wonderful classics for which copyright has expired to be found here.
Also take a look at Project Gutenburg and the archive.org websites a these have so many public domain books in both audio and text versions, of the kind you seem to be after.
