Pros

  • Pomodoro technique is an easy one and works pretty well. The 5 mins break after every 25 mins helps keep 'time' in perspective - which somehow helps focussing
  • Try the Pomodoro technique (25 min study, 5 min break) and write stuff down while you learn instead of just watching videos.
  • Time blocking, pomodoro or other productivity apps can help build that initial discipline/consistency.
  • FYI, you can stack "perspective shift" w/ "pomodoro" w/ habit-stacking ETC.
  • Pomodoro (but only if you tweak the length to your energy levels)

Cons

  • As someone with ADHD, this has never worked for me. In fact, it’s just about the least effective productivity “hack” I’ve tried, because I usually do my best work when I’m in that flow state, but this is designed to rip me out of it ever...

  • Not the famous 25 minute pomodoro everyone swears by just what naturally fits my brain. I’d hit this point where I’d get into flow and forcing myself to stop every 25 minutes actually made me less productive.

As someone with ADHD, this has never worked for me. In fact, it’s just about the least effective productivity “hack” I’ve tried, because I usually do my best work when I’m in that flow state, but this is designed to rip me out of it every few minutes.

My contribution is: Pomodoro Technique and breaking of intervals into 25-minute intervals with breaks in between. If I'm taking a break, I'm not easily returning to the work and it's a struggle to get back to it. ... artificially creating breaks? Disastrous, and not how my ADHD brain works.

i wasted so much time trying to make pomodoro work when my brain just doesn't switch gears that fast. once i stopped fighting it and tracked what felt natural i found i work in like 40-45 min chunks before i actually need a real break. forcing the 25 min thing just meant i spent half the session getting into flow and then immediately breaking it

Pomodoro? Great for the first week, then I just start hitting “skip” and scrolling instead.

Parent context: Lol true, but I genuinely am that person who gets mad at a 25-minute timer Reply: So don't set it to 25 minutes? It's a guideline not a hard rule

Pomodoro doesn’t work if your brain needs different rhythms.
