Reddit take

Not enough linked mention summaries yet; the source excerpts below are the evidence.

Pros

  • Polk due to it's larger woofers. Smaller woofers sometimes make for tinny, cold vocals.
  • Polk has some good ones (stay away from budget models).
  • Polk has some decent value on budget and forget about floor standers in general so you get even more value for your money
  • The Polk would be a huge upgrade over your previous Bose and I wouldn't look much further.
  • When I want to "bang" I'll turn on my Polk.

Cons

  • Other brands to consider: Polk, Klipsch, SVS, and JBL.
  • Polk makes some good speakers, but not great subs.
  • Parent context: So I recently upgraded my center channel from a Polk S35 to a KEF Q650c, thinking it would be a big step up. Given the price difference, I was expecting a noticeable improvement, but honestly… the difference isn’t as dram...
  • I found that some older Polks were terrible at center channel reproduction. They may have improved them in recent years, I don’t know.

I went with Polks for the in-ceiling, only because my in-walls were Polk and picked up used and I wanted to match the brand of all speakers.

Personally a huge fan of Polk as my go to all rounder.

Parent context: So I recently upgraded my center channel from a Polk S35 to a KEF Q650c, thinking it would be a big step up. Given the price difference, I was expecting a noticeable improvement, but honestly… the difference isn’t as dramatic as I thought it would be. Reply: I’ve just done a quick comparison of going back and forth between the KEF and Polk. There is the slightest difference which is not worth the additional $400-500
