Pitocin

Pros

• They started me on the lowest dose of pitocin. I had no other things to get me induced to begin (no cervix softeners, Foley bulbs, etc.).
• We start pitocin and everything is going good not too much pain very tolerable.
• I think they turned the pitocin up once over the next 3 hours, and my cervix and body was finally figuring the whole labor thing out.
• Anecdotally, my water broke at 38+4 and I needed Pitocin, but didn’t need an epidural, so it’s definitely not the kind of thing where one intervention always leads to getting every intervention in the book.
• 10:00am: started feeling contractions, nurse checked my cervix (2cm) and determined that the cytotec had worked very effectively and we were ready to switch to pitocin, which we did immediately

Cons

• I had to get a pitocin induction with my third kid due to PPROM and some other factors and I did personally find compared to non-pitocin contractions the induction ones to be way more intense and painful.
• A lot of babies can start to have irregular heartbeats due to stress from the pitocin contractions. ... Pitocin is risky to babies.
• Turns out they put me on bitcoin without telling me. They completely went against my wishes (which I made clear that I wanted NO PITOCIN AUGMENTATION).
• I had awful back labor, made worse by needing Pitocin.
• Induced pitocin contractions > misoprostol contractions (MMC at 11 weeks, not sure if how far along matters) > natural labor contractions
