Pros
- I have both and Refugio. It’s better, more comfortable, durability honestly depends also on how you are with the bag, but I haven’t had a problem.
- patagonia refugio 26l might be your best bet imo. you can buy any additional organization items as needed.
- The Patagonia Refugio 26L and 30L are both on sale now, within your budget.
- Highly recommend testing out the Patagonia Refugio 26l. It fits way more than you think, while having a relatively minimal profile. I have used it for 2 night trips to NYC & then DC recently and it was very comfortable to carry all day f...
- I love all my Patagonia bags! We have a Mini MLC and a Refugio 26L.
Cons
- On Refugio 26- it is a cool model but I wouldn’t say it is a good commuter backpack as it does not have even a single small pocket (or a loop/ ring to attach things TB-style), it is a v. good personal item bag that works well with Europe...
- I eventually settled on the Patagonia Refugio 26l - its light, within common personal item size restrictions, has a good laptop compartment, and doesnt suffer from an overabundance of internal organization... The one damn thing I didn't...
- Patagonia Refugio 26L
- No clamshell or luggage passthrough, but I eventually felt I had to loosen my requirements to find more options. Perfect size, love the look Not sure it would fit my laptop

On Refugio 26- it is a cool model but I wouldn’t say it is a good commuter backpack as it does not have even a single small pocket (or a loop/ ring to attach things TB-style), it is a v. good personal item bag that works well with European low costs. It works well in EDC or light/ casual hiking if you don’t need much organization.

Highly recommend testing out the Patagonia Refugio 26l. It fits way more than you think, while having a relatively minimal profile. I have used it for 2 night trips to NYC & then DC recently and it was very comfortable to carry all day fully packed out. ... Most packs hurt my shoulders to carry a lot of stuff, but this one has not bothered me much at all :)
I eventually settled on the Patagonia Refugio 26l - its light, within common personal item size restrictions, has a good laptop compartment, and doesnt suffer from an overabundance of internal organization... The one damn thing I didn't think about was the strap to attach it to the carry on! So yeah moral of the story is: if you want that strap, don't buy this bag haha

Patagonia Refugio 26L
Patagonia Refugio 26L, Osprey Nebula or Proxima, The North Face Recon, Timbuk2 Parkside all would be good options and most fit within your price range.
This time I'm restricting myself to a Patagonia Refugio 26L plus crossbody, so about half the volume I'd usually take.
