Palmer's Cocoa Butter Lotion
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Recent Reddit sentiment regarding Palmer's Cocoa Butter Lotion is notably negative, driven largely by reports of a significant formula change. Long-time users express disappointment that the previously thick, peachy-beige lotion with a strong chocolate scent has been replaced by a thinner, white, and more watery version with a muted fragrance.
Pros
- Lighter consistency compared to the solid jar version, which some users prefer for easier application
- Remains a staple for basic daily hydration for users whose skin reacts well to cocoa butter
Cons
- Recent versions are described as watery, liquidy, and lacking the classic 'yoghurt-like' thickness
- The iconic chocolate scent is reported to be significantly weaker or 'barely there'
- Texture can feel greasy or 'soft' immediately upon application
- One user reported the product made their skin tone appear patchy and uneven
Caveats
- While some users suspected counterfeit products from third-party sellers, others confirmed the same quality issues with bottles featuring legitimate batch codes, suggesting a brand-wide formula change.
- The product color has shifted from a warm peachy-beige to a plain white.
Best for
- Users who found the original formula too thick or heavy
- Those looking for a lighter, less intensely scented cocoa butter lotion
Avoid if
- You are looking for the classic, thick, and highly fragrant Palmer's formula
- You dislike watery or thin lotions that turn liquidy when rubbed between palms
- You have concerns about greasy finishes or potential skin tone patchiness

What redditors said (10 of 12)
The old one isn’t exactly pink, but it’s certainly warmer and more peachy-beige, whereas the new one is basically just white.
The lotion has ALWAYS been thick af and a bit pink. What I have right now is watery and white.
paying for Palmer’s quality, I would like the product with the best quality possible, as would everyone else buying it.
This is in-depth and it’s a stroke of luck that you had a year old bottle laying around so you can slather yourself in that thick Palmer’s goodness!
The good old, go go, Palmer’s Cocoa Butter lotion’s formula has been changed for only 1 reason - profit.
Some commenters said I got a fake bottle since I bought it from Amazon but the batch code and the font and the bottle and writing and the pump and everything seem legit and a-okay, it’s just the Palmer’s Cocoa Butter lotion feeling watery when I apply it to my skin and the fact that the chocolate scent is muted and barely there.
I used it for the first time a few days ago and immediately when putting it into my hands to rub it turned from the thick look to watery, and today it just turned very liquidy in my hands when I rubbed it between my palms when it should be more like yoghurt.
However when that ran out in December 2025 I bought a new bottle last week from Amazon and immediately after opening it I noticed the smell was not as prevalent as it was.
The lotion is lighter so I usually prefer the solid jar for more moisture
I use the Palmer's cocoa butter lotion on it because it is smoother when it is hydrated , however it doesn't get Reid of the bumps and redness. It also makes my cheek skin tone look really uneven and patchy as well which makes me really self conscious as I don't wear makeup.
