Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

OxygenOS is generally well-regarded for its fluidity and speed, with many users considering it one of the smoothest Android skins available. While it is praised for a clean interface that some find even less cluttered than Google's stock Android, there is significant discussion regarding its transition to a shared codebase with ColorOS, which has led to mixed feelings about its current identity.

Pros

  • Exceptional fluidity and snappy system performance
  • Clean interface with minimal bloat and fewer intrusive suggestions than stock Android
  • Intuitive UI improvements, such as better app drawer management and navigation options
  • High level of polish and customization compared to many other Chinese Android skins

Cons

  • Perceived loss of unique identity due to increasing similarity with ColorOS and Realme UI
  • Some users find the aesthetic less appealing than competitors like Samsung's One UI
  • Occasional reports of 'strange' or inconsistent software behavior

Caveats

  • Opinions on customization are divided; while some praise its options, others find it more restrictive than rival skins
  • The software's evolution has made it nearly identical to Oppo's ColorOS, which may alienate long-time fans of the original OxygenOS experience

Best for

  • Users who prioritize a smooth, fast, and responsive user interface
  • Those looking for a clean Android experience with useful, non-intrusive features

Avoid if

  • You prefer the specific design aesthetic and feature set of Samsung's One UI
  • You are looking for a strictly unique software experience distinct from Oppo or Realme devices

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median source age of approximately 410 days, which may not reflect the very latest software version changes.

avoid ... anything that uses oxygenos since it had a bootloop issue in oxygenos 16.0.5 and 16.0.7 (recent versions)

OnePlus (OxygenOS) – This one is interesting because it used to be the default recommendation for clean plus fast Android. It’s still smooth and responsive, but a lot of users feel it has become less distinct over time.

Worst case they will change oxygenOS to colorOS which already look nearly identical.

No? OxygenOS isn't THAT good if you like customisation

oxygen has a great mix of everything. Practically as smooth and pretty darn feature rich.

Oxygenos, coloros, realme ui are smoother and lighter but try to look like apple a bit so it's a hit or miss

OnePlus 15R (currently OxygenOS takes the number 2 position beside OneUI and iOS)

I would really love to get the newer OxygenOS / ColorOS 16 experience because features like Fluid Cloud and the frosted glass UI style look really clean and smooth, and that overall UI feel matters to me a lot too.

Previously Oneplus Oxygen OS used be good UI in Android but now it's sister Chinese brands spoilt it. Look at any Chinese phone, its the same software with few settings and a name change.
