Pros

  • She has her owlet sock and a camera in her room (right across the hall so she would still be less than 20 feet from me).
  • I am an anxious intrusive thought person and I loved the sock. Intrusive thought about baby not having moved… see green light… go back to sleep. (As opposed to sitting up and checking baby breathing).
  • We bought it, didn’t use it for a couple weeks, and then tried it one night and loved it and have been using it since. False alarms have only occurred when we pick her up for the overnight feed and we might accidentally knock the sock ca...
  • I was kind of a hater at first because we had a false alarm, but now I’m really liking it. My husband got covid, and while baby and I don’t have it, it’s been putting my mind at ease monitoring her levels.
  • Highly highly recommend it! I agree with the other poster about buying new, my girl does get a bit of a sweaty foot too. It helped my anxiety soo much.

Cons

  • I’m a nurse and have seen 2 or 3 babies get 2nd degree burns from them. Please do a lot of research! I believe there was a class action lawsuit about this. Most pediatricians recommend against them.
  • We bought one then promptly returned it. Connectivity sucked and ultimately we found our anxieties could be easily quelled with an under the mattress monitor that was less of a pain and cheaper.
  • I had PPA and our daughters Ped recommended we not get it. Not telling you one way or another, I’m just sharing. I’m glad we didn’t, once we got her in her own room and I breastfed her in her nursery instead of in bed with us, my anxiety...
  • Everyone I know who got the Owlet sock ended up hating it. So many false negative alarms that caused unnecessary panic and in at least one case led to insomnia for my friend.

We bought it, didn’t use it for a couple weeks, and then tried it one night and loved it and have been using it since. False alarms have only occurred when we pick her up for the overnight feed and we might accidentally knock the sock causing the sensor to think something is wrong. Is it overkill? Probably. Does it make my wife and I sleep better knowing she’s being monitored? Definitely.

Highly recommend, wouldn’t buy used. My son sweats like crazy and I wouldn’t want to impart that on a baby that’s not mine. We’ve only had 1 issue ever and that was when the sock was too big (we increased size before we should’ve). It doesn’t get disconnected sometimes, but it’s usually when he’s kicking around like a wild child lol.

I loved it. I had no issues with connectivity but our house is rather small. We only had one or two false alarms in the 11 months we used it and it was because baby kicked it off her foot.
