Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The OnePlus Nord 5 is generally well-received as a balanced mid-range smartphone, with users frequently highlighting its clean OxygenOS software and smooth day-to-day performance. While it faces competition from brands like Poco regarding raw processing power, it is often preferred for its superior software experience and commitment to long-term updates (4 years of OS and 6 years of security updates). Opinions are slightly split on hardware value, with some users praising the camera and build while others find the device too large or the European battery capacity disappointing compared to previous models.

Pros

  • Clean and responsive OxygenOS software experience
  • Strong long-term support with 4 years of OS updates
  • Good value for money, often including a charger and ample storage
  • Smooth day-to-day performance and reliable camera for the price point
  • Premium build features like a glass back

Cons

  • Large physical size may be uncomfortable for users seeking compact phones
  • Lack of a dedicated telephoto lens
  • European model features a 5200 mAh battery, which some users find disappointing compared to the Nord 4

Caveats

  • Some users suggest the device is overpriced at launch and recommend waiting for a price drop to maximize value
  • While the software is praised, competitors like the Poco F7 may offer more raw power for gaming

Best for

  • Users who prioritize a clean, smooth software interface
  • Budget-conscious buyers looking for long-term software support
  • General users who want a reliable all-rounder in the $300-$400 range

Avoid if

  • You prefer small or compact smartphones
  • You require a dedicated telephoto lens for photography
  • You are looking for the absolute highest raw performance for the price

I’d personally pick either Motorola or OnePlus. Something like a Nord 5 or a Moto Edge 60 Pro.

If the budget is around 300-400$ you can get a Poco F7 or OnePlus Nord 5. Poco is more powerful but OnePlus has better software so you gotta pick your poison.

The 3a gets one update to its software, the Nord 5 gets 4, making it the better of these two.

I think in that price range I could consider the Nord 5, but I find it too big in size, I wanted something more "compact", even if I saw some really good reviews

I've used both the Nord 5 and Nord CE 5. The only downside on the Nord CE 5 is the mono speaker. Again, that may not bother you as the rest is good.
