Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The Omega Seamaster is a highly regarded luxury dive watch celebrated for its iconic design language and strong wrist presence. While it is frequently praised for its build quality and heritage, it is also noted for its 'chunky' profile and polarizing aesthetic choices like the helium escape valve and five-link bracelet.

Pros

  • Excellent wrist presence and comfort despite its larger size
  • Iconic design elements including the wave-pattern dial and skeleton hands
  • High reliability across both modern coaxial and vintage movements
  • Strong value proposition on the secondary/grey market compared to competitors

Cons

  • Thick case profile can make it difficult to wear under tight dress cuffs
  • Polarizing 'dated' bracelet design and unnecessary helium escape valve
  • Some users report a noisy rotor in certain movements
  • High-polish finish can be scratch-prone and feel too conspicuous for some daily environments

Caveats

  • Vintage models frequently appear with refinished or repainted dials which can impact value
  • The design is often described as 'flashy,' which may not suit those looking for an understated tool watch

Best for

  • Watch enthusiasts seeking a luxury diver with a distinct identity from Rolex
  • Fans of 90s heritage and the 'James Bond' aesthetic
  • Collectors looking for a high-quality mechanical watch with strong lume and visibility

Avoid if

  • You prefer slim, low-profile watches for formal attire
  • You find the scalloped bezel or skeleton hands too busy for your taste
  • You want a matte, understated daily driver that hides scratches well

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older (median age ~605 days), which is generally acceptable for a stable luxury product like the Seamaster, though recent minor revisions may not be fully captured.

I have a seamaster I wear a lot, however I default to my Apple Watch Ultra almost always.

the fact that Globemasters just aren’t as popular, so you don’t see them in the wild nearly as often as a Seamaster or Speedmaster.

Contents that I carry every day: Glizzy 19 gen4 (second best gen), Leatherman Skeletool, Omega Seamaster.

I have a seamaster, bb58, and sbga375. I bought all of them grey market brand new for under $4000 USD.

My favorite was the guy asking if it was ok to swim with his Seamaster

Love that the Timex Expedition and two Moonswatches peacefully coexist with the Reverso, Seamaster, Yachtmaster, IWC, and the vintage pieces. Great collection.

The watch my parents gave me at 15 is an Omega Seamaster that belonged to my grandpa and is worth more than the dozen or so other watches I have combined.

The design of this watch has really grown in me: I initially didn’t like the scalloped bezel edge, the skeleton hands, the loud wave-pattern dial, the 5 link bracelet, and the unnecessary helium escape valve, but those are all signature elements that I now makes up one of my absolute favorites in the world of watches.

I would love to see Omega release a 38mm no date seamaster without the thick coaxial movement (one can dream)…
