Nikwax

Pros

• As far as a sleeping bag - for sure you could use a DWR wash on one, like Nikwax (I don't know if they have that in Australia) or other similar brands.
• I have always used nikwax.
• I just washed my down jacket with Nikwax 2 weeks ago and dried it on very low heat with 2 tennis balls, and the jacket came out as full of fluff as the day I bought it.
• For leather shoes I'd add: leather shampoo (I use saddle soap) and waterproofing (I use Nikwax)
• I suggest getting Nikwax though.

Cons

• I’m looking into buying Nikwax, but the company also has TX direct, is this also needed?
• how can i best remove the old layers of nikwax in order to re-coat with something like fabsil?
• all my other clothes, even line dry only, are odor-free after a wash. anyway, i tested an extra rinse cycle and tumble drying on extra low and that did the trick. ... this is literally only an issue when i’m using nikwax.
• interesting! i’m using Nikwax and it leaves a weird chemical scent so i’ll try running two extra rinse cycles and see if that helps.
• i’m using Nikwax actually 😅 it leaves a distinct chemical smell, even when i dry them in a machine.
