Nikon Z5

I would recommend something like the Z5, cheapest full frame Mirrorless with better-than-Canon specs at that price point. ... Here are a few reasons why I went with a Nikon Z5 for my adapted lenses: -Full frame under $1k brand new (I think I got it for $900) -Better viewfinder resolution than comparable Canon models I was considering as you'll want to primarily use the viewfinder when seeking a more retro shooting style -Better button layout for thumb work, being able to map a back button focus to a 100/200x zoom to check focus quickly (focus peaking is helpful but if you can zoom in, you'll be amazed at how sharp some of these old lenses are) -Better menu navigation than Sony for a more organized, clean, and easily customizable setting -IBIS - which at that price point you're not going to easily find without another compromise. This is helpful since there is no lens stabilization in vintage lenses and the camera body can be set to their spec to allow the IBIS option to work -The ability to manually control shooting modes (full shutter, electric shutter, front curtain shutter) which you cannot do on similarly priced Canons - this prevents awkward bokeh in some situations

DPReview, as mentioned elsewhere basically *the* written camera review source compares the Z5ii to its "peers" - the Canon R8, Lumix S5ii, Sony a7iii, and original Nikon Z5.

OP, you can get a Nixon Z5 used for under half your budget. It's a great camera and full frame. You can pair that with a fast moderate wide angle like the 35mm f1.8 S.

I'm now on a Z5 and very happy with it... The image quality is just a lot better.

Getting that z5 is a great idea if you can find it used for a good price because it would otherwise leave you very little budget for lenses.

May i add Nikon Z5 : bigger, but evf, double card slot, weather sealing, stabilisation, is full frame, quite cheap.. maybe underrated
