Pros
- the Nikon D500 plus 200-500mm f/5.6 combo is a glorious brick that weighs almost twice as much (around 3 kg), but it's the only real cure for your frustration with noise and high ISO. Forget the D850 because the D500's crop factor is a t...
- I think the D500 is that perfect middle ground: pro technology, but with the soul of an old-school tank.
- the ideal solution for you, given that you liked the grip of the Nikon D80 and you have $2,500, is the Nikon D500. It's the best APS-C DSLR ever for wildlife: professional focus, a robust body, and excellent dynamic range.
- Nikon D500 used: I’ve heard it’s basically the best DSLR for what I intend on using it for.
- Nikon D500 DSLR 99% of the time the 70-200mm is on my camera
Cons
- absolute beginner here interested in a nikon d500 camera for bird photography but i dont want to spend loads amount of money

D500 is better in every way, but also 400g heavier.
I would recommend a camera like the Nikon D500, which does have a Full Frame sensor and would take your current Nikon lenses

Nikon d500 16-80mm f.2.8
For sports, i picked a higher end, but aged used DSLR body (Nikon D500) and a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 lens.
