Nikon D5

Artemis II’s astronauts will have two Nikon D5 digital single-lens reflex cameras available inside the cabin. These are professional-grade still and video cameras, selected both for public affairs imagery and for the crew’s own photographic priorities.

The old film is unquestionably higher resolution but that D5 can practically see in the dark.

If you can’t upgrade your body(I would price out a trade in and buy a used D5 with MPB or KEH at the minimum), then the next best thing you can do is shoot RAW.

Parent context: Does the D5 have exposure compensation and did they routinely use that to protect the highlights? Reply: It definitely does, it’s a top end digital camera.

Another advantage of the D5 was its exceptional performance in ​low light -- a necessity for capturing crisp images in the inky blackness of space.

The Nikon D5, a ​digital single-lens reflex model released in 2016, was the workhorse camera used by the crew. Reichert said the D5, used for years on the International Space ​Station, had proven it would withstand radiation and other extremes of space travel.

They’ve brought three Nikon cameras: two D5s, one with a 14-24mm wide lens to capture the whole Moon and the other with an 80-400mm zoom lens that can pick out the finer details.

10+ year old camera kit there, though certainly nothing bad, they'll get great photos (as already seen!)

Nikon D5, @22mm 51,200 ISO (photo is on the night side of earth). I have seen a lot of people who don't realize the circumstances complaining online about the color and clarity and stuff. All things considered, it's incredible!

The D5 has been used and tested extensively and is known to work in space where newer mirrorless cameras have not been. That’s literally all
