Yeah, unfortunately Newegg hasn’t been good in probably around 15 years at this point. Lots of stories like yours out there.
I've heard stories about Newegg (not the best) and Microcenter (fantastic). While I've had great experiences with both, I'd rather have the option to go to a physical store for help.
IIRC newegg sells used systems, Facebook marketplace, craigslist, it's all very easy to test the systems fully before you buy them.
You will most likely buy individual parts from newegg or other online retailers.
My advice, go to pcpartpicker site, look at recent configurations by other users, choose what you like, look at the price and then maybe try to find something similar in pre-built PCs that are sold on Amazon, Newegg, etc.
