Pros

  • Have to say - love the 870! For all the negative - upgraded from the rbr50 as it wasn’t supported anymore - was worried based on all the negativity associated with this mesh system - works great! I’m not a power user - but get over a gig...
  • I think orbi still has the best range for wireless backhaul which is a necessity for me. ... And I got a pretty good deal on the two 870s.
  • I have about 50 devices on. Y network and I probably should have gone with 870 for some future proofing.
  • I moved from Eero to the 870s and I've been very happy. I used to have stability and speed issues with the Eeros and the 870s have been extremely solid for me since I changed about 6 months ago

Cons

  • I have the Orbi 870 and iPhone 16 Pro as well and also noticed connectivity issues on my iPhone 16 Pro. In particular the Sonos app on my iPhone 16 Pro had issues that I didn't have on my iPhone 12 Pro
  • Parent context: How many devices do you have connected? I have constant issues with my 870. Works awesome for a few days then it starts disconnecting devices randomly. Reply: I’ve had the Sonos, my August lock, my nest smoke detector, my...
  • It’s terrible with my Sonos but I think that’s a Sonos problem not a orbi issue. It has randomly switched routers on me - they might be too close and had a connection issue - but otherwise still working great
  • I have constant issues with my 870. Works awesome for a few days then it starts disconnecting devices randomly.
  • The actual Wi-Fi performance has been very good. ... The issue is stability. In about 2–3 weeks, I’ve now had the same problem happen 2–3 times: devices randomly drop off or fail to get a proper IP

Parent context: How many devices do you have connected? I have constant issues with my 870. Works awesome for a few days then it starts disconnecting devices randomly. Reply: I’ve had the Sonos, my August lock, my nest smoke detector, my google max speaker, and more disconnect All at different times. When I have issues I no longer can find the speakers from my phone. I have to factory reset to fix. But comes back 5-6 days later.

Have to say - love the 870! For all the negative - upgraded from the rbr50 as it wasn’t supported anymore - was worried based on all the negativity associated with this mesh system - works great! I’m not a power user - but get over a gig speed throughout my house (all through wireless’s - no hardwire) and works great so far!

I may have narrowed this down to a Wi-Fi 7 / MLO issue on the Orbi 870. My iPhone 16 Pro Max was connected to the RBE870 satellite using 5 GHz + 6 GHz (MLO). While in that state, I was intermittently unable to reach local devices like my Sonos Arc and KEF LS50 Wireless II

Parent context: I’m seeing the same issue. I did the opposite and moved routing to a new standalone router and changed orbi 870 to AP mode. Solved it Reply: I was doing that. I had the Verizon doing dhcp. Verizon sent me a newer modem and I installed it. Sometime after I installed it, the dhcp got weird. It was as if it would only give out three addresses!
