nerite snails

Pros

• My clean up crew is three nerites, which do a great job on the glass, 2 super red bristlenose plecos who help on the glass but really keep the hardscape clean, and amanos who keep any algae on the plants in check.
• Pros: cute lil guys. Some species eat Green Spot Algae which most other animals ignore.
• I'd rather have nerite snails which don't reproduce in freshwater.
• Adding Amano shrimp or Nerite snails would also not go amiss - bioload aside you need something else to do cleanup beyond the apple snail.
• I had that brown string algae. Put two Nerite snails in tank.. no more algae. Better than the Otto I have.

Cons

• I agree here that Nerites are likely not a good option for you unless you are willing to keep them in the right parameters and wait until the tank matures.
• if you dont know a whole lot about them, read up on nerite snails in r/AquaticSnails some. a lot of people end up disappointed, a lot of snails end up dead.
• Many snails people put in tanks actually require a 10 gallon for one (mysteries and nerites are two examples and people unfortunately kill these all the time or have too much bioload in their tanks).
• Those and nerite snails keep my tank looking clean (though I hate the nerite eggs).
• actually we literally haven't been able to successfully breed captive nerite snails! It isn't even that it's hard, it's nearly impossible.
