Nemesis
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Nemesis is a highly thematic, semi-cooperative sci-fi horror board game that excels at creating cinematic, "movie-like" stories and tense moments of betrayal. While it is widely praised for its immersive atmosphere and replayability, it is polarizing due to its high complexity, significant luck factor, and a player elimination mechanic that can leave participants sidelined early in a long session.
Pros
- Exceptional cinematic storytelling where every game feels like a new movie script
- High replayability with different experiences and outcomes each session
- Tense semi-cooperative gameplay driven by hidden roles and private incentives
- Immersive theme that successfully captures a sci-fi horror atmosphere
Cons
- Player elimination can occur in the first 10 minutes of a 3-hour game
- High complexity and steep learning curve for new players
- Heavy reliance on luck; victory can be impossible due to bad dice rolls or card draws
- Individual actions can sometimes feel uneventful or low-impact compared to the overarching story
Caveats
- The game is notoriously difficult; misinterpreting rules can accidentally make it even harder
- Players must be comfortable with the possibility of being backstabbed by teammates
- Requires a significant time commitment, often lasting several hours
Best for
- Groups who prioritize theme and narrative over pure strategy
- Fans of hidden-role games like Dead of Winter
- Players who enjoy high-stakes, high-tension social deduction
Avoid if
- You have a low tolerance for player elimination
- You prefer low-luck, 'Euro-style' strategy games
- You want a purely cooperative experience without the threat of betrayal

Dont love nemesis either.
I definitely get the Nemesis hype, I think I just prefer fruitier/lighter options than what they usually offer for specifically espresso.
Nemisis? It's up there if not better than Revolver. ... Nemisis is the big stand out as 2nd hand MFA therapy
I would definitely bump Revolver and Nemesis up a tier
Love to have to scan the entire nemesis rulebook to find intruder bag development table
I just played Nemisis a few times and it’s not a complex game, but there are just some edge cases that seems to pop up a lot that I could not fine easily in the rulebook. And the rulebook honestly Makes it 10x harder to understand with being taught.
