Mühle R89

Pros

• If you enjoyed the 34c, but want a different razor, look at a Muhle R89. It’s a great razor, although it shaves very similar to the 34c.
• My R89 likes the following Gillette blades made in Russia: PermaSharp, Silver Blue, Nacet, 7O’Clock yellow, and Minora. It also likes BIC Chrome Platinum and Treet Platinum.
• I love my R89, and it pairs well with all but one of the Gillettes I have tried.
• Look for a Muhle R89 or a Merkur 34c. Both are excellent razors that will last for years and are perfect for daily shaving.

Cons

• I received a Muhle R89 for Christmas and I am finding it so mild I can barely shave the hair in one pass let alone line up the beard with how bulky the head is. It’s like I have to guess where the blade is.
• Whether in a Muhle R89, an R41, a vintage Gillette, a Rockwell 6s, or any other razor I have tried, the key for me working ATG is a good, new, blade.
• Even though i think the R89 is great to begin with as it is very forgiving, in my opinion, it's not for me anymore.
• Once I got the Rocca I started avoiding the R89 just because it’s not as great. But the last few weeks I’ve had time due to holidays and adjusted my ritual to lather really well and use the correct angle where you can “hear” the blade. T...
