MSR
Reddit take
Not enough linked mention summaries yet; the source excerpts below are the evidence.
Pros
- If money is no object and you want a free standing tent, then Big Agnes, Nemo, Sea to Summit, MSR are good options.
- If you want better control, more efficiency, better wind performance then look at Soto or MSR.
- I often reach for my alps gear more than my expensive MSR gear sometimes.
- MSR seems to be keeping the tradition alive and I like that I can see the design style living on, but I miss Moss.
- Love my MSR gear for sure, but I expect Rab would make a superior sleeping pad.
Cons
- RIP Walrus and Moss, damn you MSR.
- No they don’t have silly good customer service! When is the last time you attempted to contact them? Honest question here. Because I’ve been waiting for them to get back in touch…

MSR is a great brand, in my experience.
Lol made mine out of cat food tins, used that ten years before I finally got an MSR 😂 Can't say I miss it, it was fiddly af and basically impossible to extinguish early, def wish I upgraded sooner
Nemo and MSR have good options.
Platypus, Katadyn, and MSR are also reasonable.
