Moccamaster
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The Technivorm Moccamaster is widely considered the gold standard for 'Buy It For Life' (BIFL) drip coffee makers. Reddit users consistently praise its extreme durability, with many reporting 10 to 20 years of daily service. Its reputation is built on a simple, mechanical design that prioritizes repairability and thermal consistency over modern digital features. While it is a premium-priced appliance, it is frequently cited as the top recommendation for those who want a reliable, fast, and serviceable machine that produces high-quality drip coffee.
Pros
- Exceptional longevity with multiple reports of 10-20 years of daily use
- Highly repairable design with readily available replacement parts and a company-led rebuild service
- Simple mechanical operation with a physical power switch, making it compatible with external smart plugs or timers
- Fast brewing speed while maintaining optimal water temperatures for flavor extraction
- Strong manufacturer support, including a 5-year warranty
Cons
- The brewing area and water reservoir are primarily plastic, which is a point of concern for users avoiding plastic in hot water paths
- Water dispersion from the shower head is sometimes described as too 'soft,' occasionally failing to agitate the coffee bed as effectively as manual pour-over
Caveats
- Lacks any built-in programmable features or software; automation requires an external timer
- High retail price, though users frequently recommend waiting for sales where it can drop below $300 or even $200
Best for
- Users seeking a 'Buy It For Life' appliance that can be serviced rather than replaced
- Drip coffee enthusiasts who value simplicity and speed over digital customization
- People who want a consistent, SCA-quality brew without the effort of manual pour-over
Avoid if
- You are strictly avoiding plastic components in the brewing process
- You require built-in programmable start times or advanced digital displays
- You prefer the precise agitation and control of a manual pour-over setup

Moccamaster (coffee makers)
My daily morning filter coffee is from a Moccamaster automatic drip brewer.
I really like the filter coffe he makes with moccamaster. For making just one cup a day or maybe 2 it’s worth buying the moccamaster?
It's been used nearly every day since I bought it for about 7 years and going strong which is pretty crazy considering it's got to be a fairly early version, it has Douwe Egberts Coffee printed on the front and is that classic brown/brass colour combo they seemed to love in the 70's/80's
This is a Very. Good. Coffee maker. I love mine.
Best coffee maker I have owned.
$13.99 for the main unit, $4.99 for the extra carafe & 25% off the total for Members Tuesday!
I am brewing on a Moccamaster with a DF54 on grind setting 55.
I’ve been making good coffee for a few years now and have a variety of brewing methods (Aeropress/Moccamaster/Moka Pot/French Press)
