Microsoft
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Microsoft is currently viewed with significant frustration, particularly by IT professionals and power users who describe a decline in product stability and service quality. While its ecosystem remains foundational for many, the prevailing sentiment is that the company has prioritized financial metrics and market dominance over engineering excellence and customer support. Users frequently report 'abysmal' support experiences, forced system updates, and confusing product rebranding efforts.
Pros
- Microsoft Translate is cited as a reliable alternative to Google, particularly useful for travelers in China.
- Direct support can occasionally resolve complex software activation and retail key transfer issues.
- Remains a necessary standard for enterprise administration and PC gaming.
Cons
- Technical support is widely criticized for being scripted, unresponsive, and prone to closing tickets without resolution.
- Forced Windows updates and restarts can lead to data loss and workflow interruption.
- Frequent and confusing product renames and UI changes in admin portals.
- Aggressive integration of 'Copilot' branding and AI features across the software suite.
- Perceived decline in software reliability, with users reporting more frequent 'breaking' updates than in previous years.
Caveats
- Negative sentiment is heavily concentrated in professional IT communities (r/sysadmin), where users deal with the most complex aspects of the ecosystem.
- Support quality appears to have declined significantly following shifts toward offshore operations and automated/scripted responses.
Best for
- Enterprise environments requiring standardized productivity tools.
- Travelers needing translation apps that function in regions with restricted access to other services.
- Users who need high-level integration between OS and office software.
Avoid if
- You require high-touch, expert technical support for critical issues.
- You prefer a stable operating system environment free from forced updates and feature upselling.
- You are frustrated by frequent changes to software naming and interface layouts.

1. Download every single app you can for China: WeChat, AliPay, Amap, DiDi, Baidu for starters, Meituan, EleMe for food delivery and a good translate app apart from Google (microsoft should work, even deepseek). REGISTER for these apps BEFORE reaching China, so put your passport details, put your credit card info and all of that.
I managed to get in touch with microsoft and they got it working for me thanks for the help
The only people that can transfer activation are Microsoft themselves. If your retail key is tied to your Microsoft account but isn't transferring, then call Microsoft and ask them to transfer it for you. It should do so on it's own otherwise.
I think this is perhaps the sole example of Microsoft doing an actual positive thing in recent memory, and it likely was just an oversight
Microsoft views it as a new computer and expects a new license for it. The old days of flexible upgrades are over.
Also partly my fault but I lost the original cad file. Forgot to save it and microsoft decided to restart my computer to tell me I should install win11. Fuck you Microsoft
I once opened a ticket with Microsoft because I messed up and accidentally locked us out of our M365 tenant. Microsoft was very adamant I'd get a response in two hours. Thankfully, I fixed it myself in less time. I got a response about a month later saying they'd closed my case.
Of course Microsoft doesn’t care. Why would they?
I got this from the top voted #1 customer service company, Microsoft. ... Fucking Microsoft. If one of my help desk folks sent that email, I'd be having a chat with them. You don't close a ticket because your workload has prevented you from addressing it.
But good good luck raising a case with MS. As soon as they find out your using another MS product, or even the same product but a different version. Case closed, please do the needful & re-raise. & yes that's with the top tier MS support.
